Hi Darla
I have great sympathy with your ancestor being a puddler - most of the
poor sods went blind from the glare... If you haven't read Rape of the
Fair Country by Alexander Cordell - do so - it will bring that era and
area to life... There are also some fascinating website about the area
including the wales tv site and a google search throws up enough reading
matter to keep one intereted for ages.
It also gives some interesting pointers to researchers in that thee was
a huge influx of Irish to work in the iron works etc and for some reason
that I haven't fathomed there seemed to be a lot of links with
Carmarthen.

Hi, Pat,

Thanks for the 1851 entry for a Morgan MORGAN in Llanelly BREC. My man
of
the same name was living in Ebbw Vale in 1841. He's on the MON census
as
follows:

(1841 census - Bedwellty, Monmouthshire) - 41 Augusta Street, Victoria
Iron
Works -Morgan Morgan, 46, puddler, not born in county
Ann Morgan, 44, not born in county
Ann Morgan, 19, not born in county (I believe she is a niece, not a dau)
Watkin Morgan, 18, not born in county Daniel Morgan, 9, not born in
county Thomas Jones, 19, roller, not born in county David Allen, 55,
independent, not born in county

That's all the information I have on him. Someone on another list who
thinks
that she's related to the same man says he was born in Llanelly, so I'm
trying to check it out. I believe that this Morgan MORGAN was my g g g
grandfather's younger brother, born ca 1795. I'm trying to find my g g
g
grandfather's parents/birthplace by going through his brother because my
g g
g grandfather died in 1837 before any census data. (G G G grandfather =

David MORGAN, born 1785.)

My reasoning that Morgan was David's brother is that the younger Ann
MORGAN
in the above census was my g g grandmother and the Thomas JONES in the
same
household married her in 1842 and became my g g grandfather. Ann's
father
was David - she was born in Merthyr Tydfil GLA - David married his wife
Jane
BOWEN in 1809 at St. Peter's CMN, went to MT, and was buried there.
(This
family gets around.)

Ideally I'd like to find someone with access to the 1851 or 1861 MON
census
so I could try to find Morgan MORGAN's household (for his birthplace).
All I
have access to is the 1881 on LDS' site and I can't pinpoint a "right"
sounding Watkin or Daniel MORGAN to get a birthplace for them, Morgan's
sons
I think - Morgan MORGAN must have died by then.

Thanks for listening,
Darla
