Well I've got red ringed eyes from browsing it late into the night - the
directories are great fun - but I can't find much reference to Old Road
Cemetary - was trying to find when it came into being and which Church
it served and still on the trail of the beginnings of Mount Pleasant and
area - everything seems to stop at the Thomas Arms which was effectively
the northern edge of the town... I can't work out why they should have
plonked down a little row of houses sometime around 1850- everything
else came later, filling in the gaps. - most of the building was down
in the centre of town surrounding the factories - Mount Pleasant and
Union Buildings seem to pre-date most other buildings in the area
between Thomas Arms and Parc Howard. As far as I can work out Old Road
School was built around 1870 and appears to be on the site of what used
to be a large house and grounds in Old Road opposite the vicarage gates.

It is interesting to know that we carry the industrial relics with us -
slag was used to make coping stones etc used reguarly on garden walls -
a quick examination of my garden shows that there's plenty of "slag
stone" used.

Hi Janie

I picked up my copy straight from Benita pre publication, when it was
even cheaper.....

Yes, its a good CD, but again, I've not had chance to go through
it...think I've only checked the directories, which are very
informative.......

It's a lot cheaper to post than the Industrial and Maritime History of
Llanelly and Burry Port....which weighs 4 pounds 8 ounzes......or for
our new conversion over 2kilos......

Pauline
