Subject: [Cmn-L] Cleveland Hotel
Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2003 09:19:30 -0500
I really wish I did. As I understand it the Cleveland was torn down in the
mid 1950's. Apparently it had been pretty run down by that time. I also
understand that around the time our relatives were there it was a
"temperance hotel." Apparently unusual for the time.
I do have one old photo of Station Rd. circa that period of time, but we are
not sure that it actually shows the hotel.
I was not fortunate to know my grandparents as I was born rather late in
their lives. I do have a large pottery type plate that supposedly came from
the Hotel, but other than the English markings on the back, I can't even
authenticate that.
Let me know, and I can try to scan the photo and send it to you directly.
Jim,

Thanks Jim - nice to find a personal family connection - have you got
any old photos of the Cleveland or the area by any chance?

My Grand Parents James and Mary NASH were involved with the Cleveland
around the same time. I don't know if they owned it or if they were
just running the coffee house area of it. James listed himself as a
confectioner on several early documents.

Hi Janie
On the Llanelly 1901 census there is a James Hooper listed as a billiard
marker in the Cleveland Hotel, Station Road.
Hope this helps
Carolyn
