Hello every one,
I am new to this list, but have been trying to trace my grandfathers family for a while now. Up to now I have,
Daniel LEWIS b 3.12.1877 at Nant-y Ffin Factory, it has been complicated as he was born LEWIS brought up JONES, his father and aunt brought him up using their name. I am waiting for his birth certificate to arrive for confirmation.
Nant-y Ffin factory is 1/2 way between Brechfa and Abergorlech, and I have just found out is still standing.
The 1901 census shows,
Nantffin Factory (spelling error?) LLanfihangel Rhoscorn
Margaret Lewis s 48 head
Jemmima Lewis s 38 sister
Daniel Jones s 23 nephew.
1881 shows Factory Abernantffin, LLanfihangel Rhosycorn,
Daniel (David) LEWIS 60
Mary Lewis 65
Margaret Lewis 28
Anne Lewis 22
Jemmimah Lewis 19 The 3 children born Rhos Y Corn
I have a pigot 1830 directory, which has a William Lewis wool manufacturer under the Llandilo Fawr section, but that is all it says.
Is Llandilo Fawr near Llanfihangel Rhosycorn? Are they all the sme place?
Does any one know, or can help me with any information about this factory or the Lewis's who lived there. A lady very kindly sent me a map from 1891 showing the factory, some time ago. I apologise for the length of this letter.
Waiting with fingers crossed,
Sue Smith from Chester
