Hello Pat,

Your message prompted me to have another go since you said that you could read
the entries. I found that if I zoomed right in on the difficult entries so
that they filled quite a large part of the screen then I could normally read
them. There were a very small number which still caused difficulties but I
read enough of the letters to tell that they were not the names I was looking
for (David and Jemima Davies, and William Evans) anyway.

Some of the names in Enumeration Schedule 7 of the Abernant CD (i.e. on the
right hand side of page 5 of the PDF file in CD3 of the Carmarthenshire set
are extremely faint - but as I mentioned they were not the names I was looking
for. Some of the names of farms etc. on that CD are also hard to decipher -
but that is probably because Welsh place names show more variety than personal
names and therefore it is more difficult to make intelligent guesses even if
you have a reasonable understanding of the language.

My great grandfather and his father and grandfather before him were all called
"David Davies" - which is a typical example of the lack of imagination of
Welsh parents in the 19th century when it came to bestowing names on their
offspring. Still, I suppose the Welsh showed more imagination when it came to
nick-names!

Regards,

Roy
