Hello Ann Dunn from down-under,
I hope that Pauline and Richard won't mind me replying to your e-mail via
the "Carmarthenshire e-mail Group" but Pantyffynon is still there.
The old railway station now has only the "Heart of Wales Line" side of the
station open these days because the Amman Valley coal hauling branch line to
Gwaun Cae Gurwen and Brynamman is now redundant but there's hopes that it
will be reopened by a railway society group by the summer of this year.
"Up & Down" Street between Pantyffynon and Tycroes is still there.
The "Dynevor Arms Hotel" nicknamed "The Tenby" opposite the railway station
still stands but has ceased to function as a public house. Pantyffynon
colliery has long since closed but other than that, Pantyffynon is still
Pantyffynon and I should imagine that it hasn't changed too much from what
you remember. If you wish to have further news about Pantyffynon please feel
free to contact me 'off-group' and I'll see what's available for you to read
about Pantyffynon in the local newspaper.
If you'd like to see the Pantyffynon railway station in its hey-day (which
might also interest some other Carmarthenshire group members) and how it is
today, please check out the "past and present" photos on the first very
amateurish web site that I built some years ago.
There's a photo gallery available of the railway line starting from
Pantyffynon and ending at Gwaun Cae Gurwen. Simply click on 'Next' to go
through the photo gallery.
The web link is safe - no viruses!!

Mal Davies... Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.
PS.. It has been a very long day between Charles & Camilla's wedding and the
Grand National. :-)
