Dave,
A couple of thoughts;
1.Maybe tack Sylvanus on the end i.e Davies Sylvanus
That would seperate you from all the many Davies's of Wales
2. Get a DNA testing kit from the USA (from one os those "name" sites) and see what your Y-chromisome markers link you to.
