Hi to the list. Concerning Beckwith(and variations), it is located on Hwy.
70 in Plumas County just east of Portola. It is pretty much a small spot
on the highway. I have been through there many times on the way to camp
at some lakes nearby. There is a pass just to the east of Beckwourth(what
the sign says today). It was a route discovered by a man named Jim Beckwith(some
articles say Beckwourth)in the 1800's. I have seen another sign in town
where the name is spelled "Beckworth". I have no idea what is up with the
name variations as of this writing.
