Hello,
First, let me say that I don't have access to the census.
But, I did check the CA Death/Birth records in case you
don't have those.
I searched the CA death Index for 1905-1929, and could find
no listing for Margarite Mather. So, maybe she died in the
Colorado Springs area.
I did find the following:
From the CA death Index for 1905-1929
McCarroll Cassius O.; Spouse's Initials-GW, Age-58(56?);
Co. of Death-San Diego; Died-1 Aug 1920; Cert#-32993
From the CA death Index for 1940-2000
MCCARROLL, GERTRUDE MATHER; born- 1859-07-13; mother's
last-MOSER; father's last-NELSON; sex FEMALE; Birthplace NY;
Co. of death LOS ANGELES; died 1944-12-14 ; age 85
Hope this help,
MeLani

Nelson Mather, Jr., was living in Los Angeles with his wife,
Margarite. H.N., Jr. died in Colorado Springs in 1919 and
was listed as a widower. I don't know when he left
California or where his wife, Margarite died so I'm
wondering if either were found in the 1910 census. Her
first name may be spelled another way. Her maiden name was
Pierce and she was born in Iowa.

born in Flint, MI where his father was living in 1880. At
the time my grandfather died, he also had a daughter living
in Mesa Grande (near San Diego). Her name was Gertrude
McCarroll (husband Cassius O.) and I have a newspaper
article telling about her marriage in 1899 but she is listed
as Gertrude Whittaker. The copies I have from an old family
bible do not list another marriage for her so I am wondering
if this first marriage took place in CA. She was also born
in NY - both she and Horatio Jr. were the children of my
grandfather's first marriage and both born

was born and my dad was 55 when I was born making many years
separating just three generations.
