Dear Bosten Carpenter researcher,

I located a Bastian Zimmerman who served in the Revolutionary War from North
Carolina. I have not located where he was in NC. In 1790 Pendleton Dist.,
SC he was with a William Carpenter. This is actually a person who resided in
Tryon (now Lincoln) County, NC from about 1764-1777 or so. His name is
variously given as John Wooling, Hans Ulrich, Wabrig, Woolrich, William
Zimmerman or Carpenter. I do not know how he relates to the other
Carpenter/Zimmermans from the Lincoln Co. area but feel certain that he does.
I also feel certain that Bastian is also related. I just do not know how
now.

My Zimmermans arrived in America on the Pink Plaisance in 1732. They lived
in Cocalico Township, Lancaster Co., Pa until in the middle or early 1750's
when they moved into NC. Immigrants on the ship included a Bastian Zimmerman
and a Ulrich Zimmerman. Ulrich died in 1738 in Pa. Bastian was never
located in Pa. and would be too old for your Bastian but could be a father.

Do you have any information about the William Carpenter. You can tell he is
a German because he signed his name with a "VZ" mark.

I am sorry that I cannot make the connection for you but feel certain that
your Bastian fits in with my family somehow. I printed a book, CARPENTERS A
PLENTY, some years ago about these families. At that time I only knew that
this Bastian served in the Revolution and did not know about his connection
with William, Woolrich "VZ" Carpenter.

I wish you luck. You also need to know that Yelverton Carpenter of Hawkins
Co., Tenn. was married in the 1790's in Pendleton Dist. SC. I suspect that
he is somehow related to the William and Bastian.

Let me hear from you.

Sincerely,
Robert Carpenter
