My great grandfather Thomas CARPENTER married Clara HOLLAND in London in
1881. My aunt (who remembers them) is adamant that he came over to
England from Ireland, as a boy, with his father who (from their marriage
certificate) was also called Thomas CARPENTER. Both, in 1881 described
themselves as general labourers.
That is the only info we have to go on. No place name (not even a
County) or date of leaving Ireland. Some years ago I searched the IGI for
Irish Carpenters and found just a few children born in the 1860s with
father Thomas CARPENTER:
Anne CARPENTER - Mother Catherine CURRAN (b 1865, Castletown, Meath)
Catharine CARPENTER - Mother Elizabeth FINAGAN (b 1865, Drumcondra, Meath)
James CARPENTER - Mother Isabella SINGLETON (b 1866, Painestown, Meath)
Mary Ann CARPENTER - Mother Isabella SINGLETON (b 1865, Painestown, Meath)
Mary CARPENTER - Mother Bridget WRAFTER (b 1866, Tullamore, Kings, Offaly)
Can anyone connect these with perhaps a brother Thomas who moved to
England? Or indeed offer any further advice on where we go from here!!
Many thanks, Steve Carpenter
