Hi Margaret,
Raymond George Carpenter was still alive during Christmas time when I
received a Christmas card from him and his good wife.
His address is:
Raymond George Carpenter
8584 111th St. North
Apt. 307
Seminole, FL 33772
I have scanned the "THE ANCESTRY AND DESCENDANTS OF COL. SOLOMON
CARPENTER OF GOSHEN, NEW YORK" and have it as text files. Let me know
what you need.
Below is the introduction of the book.
I hope this helps.

PREFACE
My pleasure in being able to produce this booklet
stems from many reasons and I welcome an opportunity
to comment upon its contents.
Knowing the Carpenter Family Association had produced a
sizeable body of research material on this large branch of
the family, I welcomed a chance to get it into printed
form so it could serve as a working tool for other
Carpenter family researchers. Knowing a typed manuscript
would be provided, I was willing to tackle publication of
the material on a non - profit - making basis so this
booklet could be offered at a reasonable price. As the
finished product rolls off the press, I have no regrets,
even though my involvement became much more extensive and
the volume of correspondence supplied by Raymond G.
Carpenter in answer to my questions far sur asses the
original manuscript in words, pages and weight.
pass is a nagging question which, of necessity, must
be answered by those whose genealogical research has
produced hundreds of pages of data and notations. That
question is: When is it time to puplish? research is an
unending effort. When you build a house, you know when
you've finished. When you are feeding a growing family
tree, you never really know how such bigger it is going
to grow. To my knowledge, nobody has ever attempted to
research a large branch of any family and reached the
point where every single descendant was accounted for.
After I had gotten knee-deep in the Carpenter Family
Association's material dealing with Col. Solomon
Carpenter, his ancestors and descendants, I was uncertain
as to whether or not it was, indeed, time to publish.
There is an aura of finality about the printed word.
There were lines of descent from Col. Solomon which ended
in the early 1800's, contradictions among people who have
researched and written about this branch of the family,
and in scattered cases, insufficient documentation of
parent-child relationships.
However, now that this booklet has been published, I
sincerely feel that, in this case, it was time to
publish. Let me tell you why. First, and perhaps most
significant, is the fact that such a large amount of research
material should not be ignored. Since all the obvious
sources have been checked, any new discoveries would be
few and far between. Waiting to publish would prohibit
access to this material by dozens of other family
researchers who might be able to add names, dates and
other data, or verify relationships.
INTRODUCTION
This booklet represents the culmination of one phase
of our Carpenter Family Association's research, but
hopefully only the beginning of our efforts to get
family material in print where it may be shared by all.
In one respect, this work represents a jumping-off
point. Within this booklet are lines yet to be traced and
completed. our Association has sponsored a large research
effort on this branch of the family and will continue to
do so. Yet, it is also the task of other Solomon
Carpenter descendants to unearth data on specific family
units which may not have been sufficiently covered in
this work.
There is not space to thank all to whom credit is due,
so I will endeavor to thank many of you personally when
next we meet or correspond. Most involved in the
production of this material were members of the
Association Book Committee who are listed on the
following page, with Harry Rogers handling the English
research. We are also grateful to Miss Rosemary E.
Bachelor, publisher and editor of "The Carpenter Family
News - Journal," for taking an-interest in the Carpenter
Association's research and agreeing to print this booklet
as a "spare-time" project, working it in between her other
work.
Speaking for the Carpenter Association, I view this
booklet as serving many purposes. In addition to
preserving in printed form the fruits of our research, it
gives Solomon Carpenter descendants a family record to
consult. and cherish as a documentation of their
ancestral heritage.
An additional value of this booklet is that it will
facilitate preparation-of lineage papers for persons
interested in joining a number of patriotic and
hereditary societies, such as Sons of the American
Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution,
Children of the American Revolution, Founders and
Patriots of America, Colonial Dames of America, Sons and
Daughters of the Pilgrims, Society of Old Plymouth Colony
Descendants, General Society of Colonial Wars and others.
Generally, membership in these societies is by invitation
and no direct inquiry to the organization should be made;
instead, make your interest known to friends who are
members and will sponsor you.
Persons interested in preparing lineage papers, or those
who have questions about any material in this booklet, may
contact me directly. - RAYMOND G. CARPENTER

THE CARPENTER FAMILY ASSOCIATION
The Carpenter Family Association dates back to 1945,
when it sponsored its first family picnic in Middletown,
N.Y. Although in the past membership has primarily
consisted of descendants of the early Long Island
Carpenter settlers and their Orange County, New York
descendants, membership is open to any interested
Carpenter family descendant. The organization, under the
guidance of its book committee, has sponsored a wide
range of Carpenter family research on both sides of the
Atlantic. These research efforts have spanned a number of
years and encompass much more family data than is found
within the pages of this particular booklet.

Another important aspect of this booklet is that in some
instances it corrects erroneous data which appeared in
Amos B. Carpenter's old genealogy on the Rehoboth branch
of the Carpenter family, a book which remains the most
definitive work on the family. In addition, the material
we are now presenting contains additions to lines not
continued in the earlier work.
As publisher and editor of this booklet, I am not
responsible for the contents as the researching and
compiling of the material was done by others and I can only
trust that they have used a scholarly approach. However,
because of my interest in the material, I did pose some
questions, was satisfied with the answers I received and
have incorporated them into the material found herein. I am
satisfied that this material contains no great gaps or
glaring errors. I must, however, emphasize that it is a
working tool. If, as such, it leads to new discoveries, I
would be happy to publish them in either a supplemental
work, or in the pages of "The Carpenter Family News
Journal." Persons researching this branch of the Carpenter
family -- or those who have questions about material in
this booklet -- should correspond with Raymond G.
Carpenter, whose address is given at the bottom of the
following page.
The Carpenter Family Association is-to be commended for
its genealogical research and the dedication of those
members who have compiled this material for publication.
