Dear Brother,

Very, Very True! The Copyright Area of the U.S. Codes or Law is
detailed and is focused on protecting organization and presentation of
material. If the material is NEW, it protects that also. If the
material is compiled it protects the organization and presentation then
the NEW material.

The Fair Use Law is often stretched and argued over. It is often best
to play it safe with both those parts of the law.

The Carpenter CD will be copyrighted. This is to protect the
copyrighted material used with permission and that used under the fair
use act. It also protects those individuals who submitted data to the
Carpenter CD.

The Carpenter CD Copyright Notice will not allow Commercial Use without
written permission. The Notice will clearly state that portions may be
used in reviews or in Individual Genealogical or Family History works.
By spelling it out in the copyright notice, it makes it easier for lay
people like me!

International Copyright Law and that of other countries is even more
complicated!

Your other brother,

John R. Carpenter (John R.)
La Mesa, CA
