I am new to this list. I would like to know if there is a CARPENTER
connection to Artemus Carpenter LUTHER b. 1847 Newark, Kendall Co., IL, d.
1923. I am thinking that CARPENTER was a family name.

Artemus was the son of Elisha T. LUTHER b. 1820 NY and Susanah Elizabeth
LUTYENS b. 1824 Luzerne Co., PA. They were married in La Salle Co., IL in
1844. They also had a son Charles LUTHER b. 1845 Newark, IL. Elisha
Luther's mother may have been Elizabeth.

Artemus married Louisa FREED 1872 in La Salle Co. They had Nettie May b. ca
1873, Grace ca 1874, and Frank E. b. 1878, all in IL.

I have two letters from/to Elisha LUTHER that were mailed from Canton, Fulton
Co., IL in 1849 and 1850 to Kendall Co. They mention a Stephen, Jane, and
Gilbert - don't know any last names. Some of the family went to Clinton and
Appanoose counties in IA in the late 1800s.

If you recognize any of these people and can help, I will really appreciate
it. I have been checking and haven't had any luck. Hope to hear from
someone.
