Nell Carpenter Smith was the daughter of Charles T. Carpenter and Maud Ward
and the granddaughter of John Warren Carpenter and Irena Viola Dean (Viola's
mother was Lacy Hudson). She died Thursday, March 7, 2002, and was buried
Saturday, March 9, 2002. The following obituary was taken from The Anniston
Star, Sunday, March 10, 2002.

Smith TALLADEGAServices for Mary Nell Smith, 81, of Talladega were Saturday
at 11 a.m. at Bemiston Baptist Church with Revs. Ray Foreman and John
Whitstone officiating.Ms. Smith died Thursday at Talladega Health Care
Center.Survivors include her daughter, Faye Harmon of Pell City; her son,
Steve Smith of Alpine; three sisters, Sara Clark, Evelyn Beverly and Lena
Hayes, all of Talladega; a brother, Charles O'Neal Carpenter of Talladega;
six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and caregivers, Nancy Rue, Luddie
Houston and Florine Stockdale.Pallbearers were Tuggie Harmon, Stevie Smith,
Mike Davis, Bruce Ervin, Justin Grimes and Ed Dogens.Ms. Smith was a native
of Lineville and lived in Talladega most of her life. She was a member of
Bemiston Baptist Church; the W.M.U, the Tuesday prayer group, and attended
the Margie Cooles Sunday School class. She retired from Bemis Co. and was
preceded in death by her husband, Jim Smith; daughter, Sandra Davis; sister,
Eudell Sprayberry and parents, Charles and Maud Carpenter.
