Several lists and newsgroups have had messages about the value of the CA and TX databases arbitrarily removed from Rootsweb and Ancestry sites by order of MyFamily.com, Inc. management. There is a searchable copy of the CA birth index at: http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/ca/_vitals/cabiygen.htm look for the link in the lower right corner under the full-page ad.

The San Jose Mercury-News reporter who scared the Ancestry suits by writing very biased articles and interviewing only the opponents of public access, ignoring the other side of the issue, is: Dion Nissenbaum.
The Sunday Mercury-News had an editorial on the subject with more facts and balance than the news story: http://www0.mercurycenter.com/premium/opinion/edit/065310.htm.
Finally, the Ancestry/Rootsweb executive quoted in press reports is Craig Sherman, chief marketing and revenue officer for MyFamily.com, Inc. He said: "They're off, done, gone. We wanted to eliminate the controversy and make it clear that we don't want to create a problem. We're about family history."
Perhaps we should all write to him and tell him that he did NOT eliminate the controversy and that he DID create a problem for his customers. I don't know his exact e-mail address, but if it follows the company pattern, it's probably something like .
