I'm searching for information about John P. Freeman. He was born July 11, 1826, in an as yet unknown place. He died June 10, 1857 near Sacramento, California.
He is buried on what is now private property, at what once was the stagecoach stop for the Marysville to Sacramento stage line in what is now Rio Linda, Sacramento County, California.
It is believed that he may have been a gold miner who crossed the continent for California in 1849. The quality of his headstone suggests that if he were a miner, he did well for himself, based on the size and detail of his marker. Either that, someone who had the money to afford such things loved him dearly and supplied the marker for his grave.
If anyone is related to this John P. Freeman, or knows who his family might be, where he came from or why he was in California, I'd appreciate any information to help give this man a "life", instead of just a headstone. If anyone is related, I can make arrangements to have a digital photo of his (very large) marble headstone sent via email.
Thanks very much!
KT
