Go to URL for California Death Index (CADI):
<http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi>; and
make appropriate entries for surname, first name and
death year. You'll get his California death record;
Alameda county would be right for an Oakland death.
Also will get his SS# which you can use as an entry in
the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) search system
and might be able to obtain additional info (such as
parental surnames which is not in CADI; Have seen it
both ways).

I believe you can also order (at a cost)a copy of his
SS application which may have additional info in it.

Both also have Post-em capability which you might use
if you want to let others who find him in CADI/SSDI
know you're interested in exchanging info about him.
