Actually California was full of Townships from the very beginning. Brighton Township was located east of Sacramento and was south of the American River. The approximate present day location of the town or village of Brighton, proper, is the area near the intersection of Folsom Blvd. (old Sacramento to Coloma Road) and Howe Ave-Power Inn Road.
In 1900, it was likely this person was buried at the East Lawn Cemetery on Folsom Blvd. I believe they have a website, but I don't have URL just now.
