A letter received by a relative in late 1850 indicates that a Samuel Matthias Ayres (age 25) died at James Bar, Moquelmas (sp?) River, CA in the care of (Dr.?) John Doughty. Correspondance response to this 1850 letter was to be made to John Doughty or Wm. Evans in Sacramento.

Are there any traces of SM Ayres, J Doughty or Wm Evans? Where should I look?
