I have a general question on the operation of these lists and the message
boards that are gatewayed to the list. If a person posts a message on the
board, but does not join the list, their question still comes to the
list.... right?
Then if someone posts an answer to the list, is there any way that the
original person would see the answer if they were not on the list?
This occurred to me because I saw a question and noticed it was gatewayed
in. So I went to the board and answered it, not realizing that someone had
already responded on the list. But of course, the list response does not go
to the board. So I am wondering if the person got both messages or just the
one I posted to the board?
I am concerned because I have posted many questions on boards where I do not
belong to the corresponding lists. I never received an answer on many and
wonder if the answers might have been posted on the list instead of the
board, which I would never see, since I did not join the list.
Also, in looking at the San Diego board, I see several obit requests... and
knowing they were gatewayed in and also knowing how generously and timely
Donna is about responding to these on the list... well, I would hate to
think that after all that work, the requestor is not getting the response.
Can anyone clarify exactly how this works for me?
Thanks!
LuAnne
