On Feb. 14, 1955, the following appeared as a news item on page B1, the local news section of the San Diego Union:

"Young Wife Runs Before Train, Dies
A young Claremont housewife was as killed at 8:45 p.m. yesterday in North Leucadia when she ran in front of a northbound Santa Fe Train traveling 90 miles an hour. The engineer ran west from Vulcan street onto the tracks.
Deputy Coroner W. Davis and deputy sheriffs identified the woman as Mrs. Jeanne Cushion Harris, 19, wife of Ralph K. Harris of 3158 Jemez Dr., Clairemont.
The sheriff's office said a Vulcan street resident said a car was observed parked on Vulcan street parallel to the railroad right of way and unoccupied at 4:40 p.m. It was registered to Mrs. Harris. No note was found in the auto or in effects of the woman.
The train was delayed until deputy sheriffs and the coroner's office could investigate."

Note: The last sentence in the first paragraph should probably read, 'The engineer said she ran west from Vulcan street onto the tracks.' The first sentence should probably be "was", not "was as". Also note Jeanne was 29, not 19 as reported.

On Feb. 15, there was a brief notice in the 'Death Notices' section of the classified ads;

Harris, Jeanne M. - Johnson-Saum Mortuary

On Feb. 17, pg. B14, this was revised to read;

Harris, Jeanne M. wife of Ralph Harris, mother of Michael Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Cushion, sister of Irene Osborn, Lucille Bourque, Margaret Kulig. Rosary Thursday 8 p.m. Blessing service Friday, 9 a.m. Johnson, Saum & Knobel Mortuary.

Thanks go to for doing the research on this for me. Thank you Peter.
