Thank you very much for your kind replies and advice.
According to the 1930 US Census, Mr. Ormsby and his wife emigrated to the US in 1926/27 and were both naturalized US citizens.
His occupation is listed as Nurseryman, Avacados.
He was a wealthy man and had a large lakefront estate in the Town of Mimico just outside of Toronto, Canada just around the corner from my grandfather's house. In 1929 he placed a number of advertisements in the Toronto papers enticing people to move to California and take up avacado farming. He would supply the plants and the land and help people get started (for a fee).
You are right, in the advertisements he says that he lives in "Vista district, San Diego County, California".
In the 1930 US Census his neighbours were Mr. Earl Nicol, Foreman, Grain Farm on one side and Joseph Cardini, Farmer, Fruit Farm and then a John Sherman, Foreman Fruit Farm on the other side.
It says that his house number is 46 put does not say what the street name is. Do your city directories tell you ?
What does the entry for Vista district say ?
Thanks again.
Michael Harrison
