Just as information -- on the 1880 census for St. Francis, Madison, Missouri = a Luther MAZE age 9, born in 1871 lives with his father Felix and wife -- Onett - who may not be the mother since she is much younger -- brothers Pierce, Shipton, Walter. I can't find Luther on Calif. Deaths so he apparently died before 1940 --
A Pierce Maze died in 1947 in Los Angeles Co., with parents Maze and mother's maiden name King - born in Missouri, in 1867 --

While this doesn't help the search for a obit - it may help establish last name spelling and date of birth.
