QUESTION:
Why does searching for obituaries in San Diego County (Encinitas) COST MONEY?
Doesn't your local library microfilm the newspapers and keep them in an
archive there where people can look at them FOR FREE? Our library does this as a
service to its patrons!

I am hoping to locate an obituary for CHARLES HAMILTON BRITTAIN. He died in
Encinitas, San Diego County, CA on September 18, 1998. According to his death
certificate, he was married to a Lucy M. Brewster (She is still living). He
lived in Carlsbad, CA. This death certificate confirms his mother as LOUISE
HAMILTON BRITTAIN (second marriage surname unknown). Whether or not Louise H.
was living with/near son, CHARLES in CA is not known. Evidently, his father,
WILLIARD J. BRITTAIN, was deceased and buried in PA, prior to CHARLES HAMILTON
BRITTAIN moving out to CA. Willard's name DOES NOT appear on Charles' death
certificate.
I really would like to locate any type of mention of this mans' death in the
newspaper, if there is one. The date again is SEPTEMBER 18, 1998. Maybe it
shows up in a Carlsbad area newspaper? Would someone be able to check for me?
I live in Ohio so looking for anything in CA is out of the question in
person.
My hope for locating CHARLES HAMILTON BRITTAIN'S obituary is that it will
tell me if he is married, had children (grand/great grandchildren), who attended
his funeral and where they were from. CHARLES HAMILTON BRITTAIN was my
father's only first cousin. My dad has never known his HAMILTON/BRITTAIN family.
He has been searching for his lost Aunt Louise H. Brittain and first cousins
for over 30 years to now avail. Finding out about the death of Charles Hamilton
Brittain was bittersweet. There are two other BRITTAIN "children". Both
women, currently between the ages of 50-80. Their first names are Ruth Ann and
Nancy. Last info I had on the BRITTAIN girls: Their last known place of
residence was "somewhere near Philadelphia, PA.- specifically, unknown" between 1940
- 1960. Ruth Ann would have finished schooling between 1954 - 1958 and
married sometime around the latter 1950s, After marriage in PA, she supposedly left
this unknown PA area for living in Easton, MD. Nancy, the youngest, would
have been still a teenager in high school, going off to college and getting
married between 1958 - 1965.
Whether the BRITTAIN "girls" live in California is not known.
I would love to give my father the gift of meeting LIVING Hamilton family.
So far, we have only located deceased HAMILTON'S.
Please help locate an obituary for this CHARLES HAMILTON BRITTAIN of Carlsbad
(Encinitas), CA.
Thank you in advance. Alice M. of Ohio
