Hi Harold - According to the SSDI (slightly different data than what is in the CDI), Cordia died in El Cajon, a suburb east of downtown San Diego City. The zip code was 92021. As you noted she did therefore die in San Diego County.

Obituaries are most commonly found in the San Diego Union and Evening Tribune (SDUT)(save for small local newspapers). The SDUT is online for obituaries back to 2000 through some of the genealogical libraries, BUT is not online beyond the last 365 days at their own site. Prior to 2000 SDUT has court challenged online services regarding putting up, for all the world to see, SDUT content published prior to 2000. That sorrowful lawsuit has single handlely caused numerous large metro newspapers to withdraw their archives for viewing thereby crippling researchers efforts unless you can afford a subscription to Lexus-Nexus type resources which are terribly expensive and typically beyond the financial wherewithal of the average person.

Your best best is contact SDUT directly seeking their help OR the San Diego City Library (main branch) and see if the Reference Desk will do a lookup for you.

You can also search for local papers that serve El Cajon and contact them via email. Some local papers publish obituaries and others do not.

Good luck.
