The embers had died out, and weary San Francisco city
employees began clearing the rubble from the streets.
Wouldn't you know that the Board of Supervisors wanted City
departments to report on what they had had been doing after
the earthquake?
My favorite is that of A. J. Donavan of the Board of Public
Works, who wrote of the first three harrowing days...
"We had no time to write reports."
