Where would I have to look to find the record of a name change in San
Francisco in the 1870's-80's?
My great-great grandmother (so the story goes) did not like it when her
husband either wanted to or was
told to take another wife in Salt Lake City, so she moved to San
Francisco with the children and changed
her name from Johanson/Johnson to Jones at the cost of $50.00. Her
husband followed soon after.

I have information from Sweden and the ship to America (name went from
Johannesson to Johanson then).
I have documented the fact that they went to Salt Lake with one of the
Mormon immigration conferences,
however I cannot find the 2 brothers in SLC, only their sister. I don't
know if the name changed to Johnson
in SLC before it was changed to Jones in SF. You see my delimma...

Now I want it known that I am in no way trying to slander the
Mormon's.. I am one! not active but still..
I am just airing my frustration at not knowing where to look.. They

A story says here that several children died from disease from when the
"hawsters" came in (???)
