Hi Listers:

Unga Island if in the Aleutian Islands which are the separation between the
Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea. So, youmight try the San Francisco
Maritime Museum for information regarding this vessels sinking. The Revenue
Cutter Service, the present day US Coast Guard, provided protection and law
enforcement for those areas during that time period. The US Lighthouse
Service, also under the Coast Guard today, had a Lighthouse this area so you
might research their records also.
Most Revenue Marine activities for Alaska were based out of San Francisco at
the time of the sinking as Washington State had not been made a part of the
Union at that time.
During the early 1960s I served in the C. G. and made 3 Bering Sea Patrols.
On one of those we had a recreation day on Unga Is. Picture sailors wading
ashore from lifeboats with food for a BBQ and our 2 cans of beer allotments
for a party!!! Needless to say it was COLD,WET and a fine time was had by
all after nearly 35 days at sea of our 70+ day Patrol.
