The Mormon Tavern in El Dorado County remained until the early 1960s when
the El Dorado County fire department burned it down to build the present
alignment of Hwy 50. (That is, of course, the standard preservation
mechanism in this county of the gold discovery site. We would never want
anyone to think we're sentimental about our historic spots...)

I'm sure Mormon Gold by J. Kenneth Davies would be of interest to anyone
studying Mormon settlement and travels before, during and after the gold
rush. As far as the roadhouses in our county, we have found his information
to be fairly reliable.
