Subject: [CASANFRA] 1906 Earthquake

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this list and am hoping for some help in finding some
information. My Great Grandfather, William John HURLEY, born Victoria,
Australia, was a bricklayer by trade and went to San Francisco, USA to help
rebuild the city after the 1906 earthquake. He stayed there for 3 years
before coming back to Australia. I have in my possession some post cards
depicting the earthquake, which he sent back to his 3 young daughters.
I would dearly love to find out about his time in San Francisco or at least
what it was like during 1906 - 1909. There is not a great deal of info
about this earthquake here in Australia and I would like to fill in the
"missing" years of my great grandfathers life. Any info would be greatly
appreciated.
TIA,
Sue Gorst
Warragul, Victoria, Australia.
