What the r., means that was where they were living at the time.

I am looking for information on Charles George Pelham. He also used the pen
name Beatty (I believe George Beatty). He was a compositor with the San
Francisco Examiner (1889, 1890) and has one address listed as r. 1108 Clay
St. (not sure what the "r." means).

He was married to Kate Louise Thornhill and they had at least one child, my
great grandmother Marjorie Clyde Pelham (Millar). She was born Sept. 15,
1892 in San Francisco...she later died in Los Angeles on Oct. 15, 1953.

I would love to find more information out on Charles and Kate. They have
been very hard to track down. It would be fun to find an article he wrote,
but that may be too hard to locate. Any help at all would be much
appreciated.

My family and I camped in Petaluma this summer...I had a seminar in Santa
Rosa. We spent one day in San Francisco and I kicked myself the entire time
for not bringing the little information I had on my gg-grandfather. We were
right there on Clay St. at one point also!!! Argh!
