Subject: [CASANFRA] 1903 Telephone Directory - text
Hello,
I just wanted to update everyone on the 1903 Telephone Directory
transcription project. We have finished over 50% of the pages, and I am
posting the first 100+ pages.
Some of you might be thinking, "If they have already scanned in the
whole
book, why should I care if they are transcribing it to text?" Good
question! Here are the top 10 reasons why you should care:
10. Text takes up less space on your computer than images.
9. Images take longer to load than text, especially if you are using
slow
modem.
8. You don't have to squint your eyes to look at those images. 7. It is
easier to cut and paste text rather than typing the information
from scratch.
6. Because some super nice people spent ALOT of time creating this just
for
you.
5. You just needed to know every tailor (or some other occupation) in
San
Francisco with a telephone.
4. Your person might have been listed as an employee of a company, but
you
don't know which one.
3. You can do street number lookups to determine the neighbors. 2.
Easiest way to search -- just plug the name into the search box.
...and the number one reason:
1. It's completely free!
By the way, it's never too late to volunteer! Here is the information
if
you would like to participate:
