Before Chutes-at-the-Beach, there were 3 other Chutes in SF, one on Haight & two on Fulton. Attractions there included the water-ride Shoot-the-Chutes, a shooting gallery, a scenic miniature railway, 4,000 seat Vaudeville Theater, zoo, ice skating rink, dance hall, merry-go-round, shooting gallery, miniature bowling alley, penny arcade and photograph gallery. There were also two attractions called The Devil's Slide and Hades. It also had at least one restaturant.
Does anyone know where I can get descriptions of these attractions or better yet, first-hand accounts?
The First Chutes was moved cause real estate became too valuable to ignore. It was moved to D Street which was later remaned Fulton. That park was partially destroyed in the 1906 quake.
When the second Chutes on Fulton caught fire in 1910, the owners moved what was left to Ocean Beach & opened Chutes-at-the-Beach, later to become Playland at the Beach.
Thanks!
