Thanks Robert!

Lotsa hassle over a non-descript creek. Of course now it's not. They dredged it and cemented it and made it a channel.

Anyone know how ISLAIS is pronounced? It's not Spanish. Said to be Ohlone for "Wild Cherry". There were lots of wild cherry trees growning there before it was civilized.

Jim and Fran,

The area you are referring to is now called "Islais Creek Channel (San
Francisco County); water feature, 3.5 miles east of Mount Davidson off San
Francisco
Bay (lat. 37 degrees 44'50" N, long. 122 degrees 23'15" W). Named on San
Francisco South (1956) 7.5' quadrangle. Called Islais Cr. on San Mateo
(1915)
15' quadrangle, which shows the feature before it was modified. United
States
Board on Geographic Names (1983b, p.5) rejected the names "DuVrees Creek"
and
"Islais Creek" for present Islais Creek Channel.

Hope this helps.
