That's great, Carolyn.
There was a special segment about that trip on a TV news show; KRON-4 I think. That was a lot more adventurous than we can imagine today. Ya know, today we even forget how it was in the '50s when a car with 80,000 miles was shot, they needed tune-ups every 6,000 and breakdowns were common. Tune-up are now almost a thing of the past We get 40,000 miles on a set of tires but one hundred years ago 3,000 was great and cars could be expected to break down every 500 miles..
Thanks for sharing.
Jim

The year was 1903- the fellow was Dr Horatio Nelson
Jackson..............
It started with an animated chat and a $50 bet
over drinks at the University Club in San
Francisco 100 years ago and culminated in a
bumpy cross- country car trip on rudimentary
roads with a bicycle mechanic and a dog wearing
goggles riding shotgun.
And now for the rest of the story.................
Peter Kesling, 71, an orthodontist and antique
auto museum owner from La Porte, Ind., has a
good idea of what might be in store Tuesday
when he climbs aboard his own 1903 Winton and
starts out to duplicate the historic feat.
Here is the story on the historic journey......and the one coming
up!
