Will I need to go to the California State Library in Sacramento
to read issues of the Daily Alta California? I would like to find
the death notice of a man who arrived on the steamer Golden Gate
in San Francisco, Nov. 1851 and later died of small pox in early
1852. I have read stories of these events and would like to
verify the accuracy.

He was Rufus BRIGGS from ME and there is an R. BRIGGS on the
passenger list of the Golden Gate, Nov. 1851 and also three
others from ME were on that ship.
