Highlights:
David ZELINKSY was born in the country of Poland on March 22, 1865. At age
ten he became an apprentice in the painting trade. Water colors were the
sole medium used at that time for the work, enabling Mr. ZELINSKY to
specialize in fine interior decorating.
In 1883 he came to the United States, landing in New York. He was 18 years
old, had little money and could not speak any English. He was fortunate in
obtaining a job on the day after his arrival. After an interval, he went to
Chicago, IL and then traveled to an uncle in Oakland, CA.
He is president and founder of D. ZELINSKY & Sons, Inc., headquarters in San
Francisco with a branch office in Los Angeles CA.
His hobby was his racing stable, and he bred and raised thoroughbred running
horses, which he raced in CA and prominent eastern tracks with success.
He is a thirty-second degree Mason, belonging to Islam Temple of the Mystic
Shine.
He was married in 1888 to Miss Celia GILBERT, who was born in Big Oak Flat,
Tuoloumne Co CA, a descendant of an old Pioneer family.
They had four children:
Herbert E.
Mervyn G.
Frederick G.
