This is interesting to me as my 2X Great-grandmother disappeared in the 1906 Earthquake. We cannot prove nor disprove that she died in the quake. We know that she was living in San Francisco at the time, and she, and the two children she was watching, vanished and were never heard from again. Maybe we can find out what happened to them.

KGO ran a piece last night on this topic. Gladys Hansen, former city archivist and curator of the Virtual Museum of San Francisco will present a case to the city Board of Supes next week to reopen the death records. Ms. Hansen maintains the 478 number was vastly understated for commercial and political reasons and was in fact in the 6,000 range. She's asking for a two year official study to be completed prior to the 100th anniversary in 2006.Just FYI - Jim
