Barb,

I would never laminate a historical document. Once laminated, it's there forever. The plastic may turn, damage the doc or turn cludy. I use archival sheet protectors three-hole punched on the edge for use in a binder. The holes are OUTSIDE the document insertion area. Be sure they're 100% archival quality polypropylene or mylar.

I've used EXPOSURES at http://www.exposuresonline.com/default.asp but there are plenty of sources out there. They specialize in Photo archives but also do paper. Type in "special pages" in the search box (no quotes).

Above all, read what NARA has to say at http://www.archives.gov/preservation/caring_for_your_family_archives.html

Good luck,
Jim

Can old documents be safely laminated? Are there better ways to preserve
them? Are there any good books about preserving these items?

Thanks
