Quite true. I was looking at it from a remote standpoint. Also, many non-Catholic church records were lost due to the quake/fire, changes in congregations and housecleaning. I've tried to get both protestant and synagogue info with no luck.

This is not quite accurate. There are church records...but they are
difficult to find from afar. IF you know their religion, and have a way
of knowing where they lived before they married, you might find SKS to
go to that church and try a search. Nothing is impossible...just
difficult!!!

Sorry to say, any marriage certificates went up in smoke in 1906.
Newspapers are about the only source left. Some have been transcribed.
