I found a 1933 reversed street directory for San Francisco, in the San
Francisco History Center, it is the earliest one that I know of. There
were business in the building at the time. A paint store,at 1136, a glassware
store, at 1142, and a antique store, at 1144. Checking earlier San Francisco Directories, found only the antique store and the first time it was listed was 1928.

So I am sorry but there no easy way, if at all possible to find out what was there, in 1915.

Is it possible to check to see what business was operating from 1140 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA in 1915? It is now the Sutter House Apartments, built in 1915. The street level looks to be a store front and the upper levels are apartments. Is there someone who might know the building and its history? I have left a message with the contact person to call me, but I'm not going to assume this person would know the history of the building. I just have learned never to assume anything! :-)

By the way, I made contact with descendants of two of the women from the Alaska Garnet Mining & Manufacturing Co. today. They both have garnet jewelry and may have photographs and more. It's only taken me 20 years to get to this point!
