Iris,
That Oliver/Rae family in the 1901 census looks just about right for yours. John Oliver and Joseph Rae are both ships firemen.
Joseph Rae was born about 1874/5 in Glasgow. Now my thought is that John Oliver is Eva's step father. Times were tough and
sailors' wives went through husbands faster than most. So picture Jane Oliver opening the door to the census taker. John is her
husband. Eva is her daughter. Joseph is her son-in-law.
God Bless,
Rebekah

THank you very very much. UNfortunately neither of those Josephs is mine/ Mine was born to Sarah McLachlan and Joseph Rae senior in
1874 in Airdrie, Glasgow.......;
Thank you for the link and for offering to try to help. It was such a shock to find Joseph in US in the first place. He was a sailor
going regularly to NEWyORK FROM eNGLAND AND i IMAGINE THE TEMPTATION TO STAY GOT TOO GREAT; bUT i should LOVE LOVE LOVE to know when
and if and why he left poor Eva and if this was why she gave my mother away. I can find no death for her anywhere, so maybe the idea
that she remarried is the best one.
Thank you again
Iris
