Subject: Partial Transcription for 1870 census for the 10th Ward, 2nd Precinct of San Francisco County....
Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2005 12:23:52 -0800
I have now completed transcribing the first 96 pages (out of 114
pages)for the 10th Ward, 2nd Precinct in the 1870 Census for San
Francisco County, CA and have it online. This Enumeration District
(ED=50) is one of the EDs in the 1870 San Francisco Federal Census (made
up of EDs 39-57).
This completes the first 4/5 (80%)of the 10th Ward, 2nd Precinct.
The 10th Ward, 2nd Precinct was in the 50th Enumeration District in
1870. It is my hope that it will help a lot of people.
I believe from http://americahurrah.com/SanFrancisco/VotingWards.htm
that the 10th Ward, 2nd Precinct was likely located in an area bounded
by on the (NW) by Howard St., the (SW) by 4th St, the (SE) by Harrison
St, and the (NE) by 2nd St. I believe that at least part of this part
of San Francisco was distroyed in 1906 in the aftermath of the Great
Quake of 1906 by the fire that distroyed much of San Francisco.
Main Streets running through this area today include (SW-NE): Howard
St.; Folsum St.; Harrison St.; Bonifacio; Dow Pl.; St. Francis Pl.;
Rizal; (NW-SE): 2nd St.; 3rd St.; 4th St.; Hawthorne St.; Lapu Lapu;
Kaplan Ln.; Mabini; Tandang Sora; The Moscone Convention Center, Ice
Skating Rink, & a Carosel are today located in this area.
I am continuing with transcribing the 10th Ward, 2nd Precinct and after
it is completed in a few weeks, I will continue on with the 10th Ward,
3rd Precinct thru the 12th Ward. This will likely take many months to
complete, but I will periodically inform as to its status. As can be
imagined, this is going to be quite a task, but will be worth it to me,
knowing so many will be helped.
