My grandparents, as children, lived in Bernal Hts in the City. Since Bernal Hts was well away from the fire it did not burn and the houses survive. One had a horse barn in the back. After the horses went one of houses was altered to block up the access to the back. The houses were adjacent and my grdfather was 9 and my grdmother 8. She told me stories of seeing the fire sweep toward the mission and south of the slot. They married in 1919 after living next door to each other since 1904. In their honor my younger brother and I attended the Lotta's fountain celebration.

Sue, how wonderful for you to have found the house intact! A couple
of years ago my daughter and I took a couple of days and took
pictures of all the house/businesses my family/ancestors lived in in
SF. Among others, my ggguncle's house at 760 San Jose Ave. in the
1880's is now a Safeway, the Gianotti (my ggf) liquor store at 2545
Mission St. in 1896 is now an Asian Market, the bar he operated in
1896 at 708-1/2 22nd St. is still a bar :-) and most of their homes
have been rebuilt or converted to something else. My ggf lived at
819 Capp St. the family creamery was at the corner of Church and Day.
We have pictures of all of it but yours is a wonderful treasure!

If anyone has too much time on their hands, you can see the pics at:
