Recently, I bought a soft cover book entitled "ITALIANS of THE BAY AREA, the
photos of Gino Sbrana", from the Images of America series. In it are photos
of working class Italians, many of whom are unidentified. I scanned each page,
carefully, hoping to find any of my FONTANA, BALLESTRASSE, TOSCANINI,
relatives, with no luck.

Suddenly, on the very last photo on the very last page, a familiar face
jumped out at me. It was that of my recently deceased uncle, Giovanni CUROTTO.
(he's the man, second from the right, with the full head of hair).
The photo was taken at the Mc Cormick (sp?) Farms in the Lake Merced area,
where we believe he worked before he became a Sunset Scavenger, and later the
owner of Sonoma Garbage Co.

Can anyone tell me if there is such a business listed in the city directory.
The time frame would be in the late 1930's, I believe. Where would I look to
find him in a census for that time? Or where he was living?

If you are looking for your Italian family in the Bay Area, these photos
might surprise you, as they did me.
