>QRYTEXT: My great-great grandfather, Charles Bigelow has been eluding me
for years. I did find some information about two of his sons (my
grandmother's half-brothers) on rootsweb today in the Social Security index,
so slowly, but surely, I am narrowing this down. Here's what I know, if any
of this sounds familiar to you.
>Charles Bigelow was born in Canada, possibly June 7, 1850 or 1855. He
married my great-grandmother, Christabell Butler (daughter of Henry Butler
and Adeline Fairchild) on May 27, 1878 in Eau Claire (Eau Claire Co),
Wisconsin. They had three children; one being my grandmother. Christabell
died May 29, 1893. Charles was remarried to Jennie Stearns (daughter of
Henry Stearns and Charlotte Brayton) on September 23, 1896 in Eau Claire.
They had five children. The first two, William Glenn and Charles Vernon were
born in Eau Claire, then the family emigrated west to Towner, North Dakota
before 1902. The third child, Alice Adeline Bigelow was born there in that
year. There were two more daughters, Margaret and Emily, but my grandmother
listed no birthdates for them in her bible, so I assume they were born
around the same time or after she was married in 1904. Grandma was married
in Williston, North Dakota, then moved to eastern Montana and never saw her
father again. Somewhere I found!
> information that two of the Bigelow girls married men with the surnames
McNutt and Magnuson.
>Charles and Jennie (Stearns) Bigelow died in California (evidence is
pointing to Stockton, San Joaquin Co) in 1920 and 1917 respectively. I found
the Social Security information about the sons, Glenn and Vernon Bigelow
today in Stockton and El Dorado (El Dorado Co), California.
