Leona Anna Sample, 84 of Stockton died Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at home. she was born Aril 12, 1918, in Rush Lake, Minn. Sample lived in various cities in Minnesota, Oregon, Washington and North Dakota before settling in Stockton. She worked as a sales clerk for Sears for eight years and as a cook for the Moose Lodge in Spokanee, Wash. Sample was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Spokane.

Survivors: campanion, Harvey Engkjer of Fargo, N.D.; children, Ronald P. Sample of Rockford, Wash., and Patricia I. Hayden of Stockton; siblings, Bernard Boedigheimer of Edan, Minn., and Marie Herrian of Bloomington, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services: Mass, 10 a.m. next Wednesday, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 7400 N. Wall St., Spokane. Committal: Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Spokane. Mortuary: Lodi Funeral Home. Memorials: American Cancer Society, 207 E. Alpine Ave., Stockton, CA 95204; or Poor Claire Nuns, care of Monasteri of St. Claire, 4419 N. Hawthorne, Spokane, WA 99205.
