Russell Beck
Russell Clifford Beck Sr., 91, of Lodi, died April 11 at his residence. He was born Oct. 29, 1913, in Aubrey, Texas.

Mr. Beck was raised in Oklahoma. He married Lena Horst in 1935 in Butler, Okla. In 1937, he and his wife moved to Lodi, where he farmed grapes and then worked in the Stockton Shipyard during World War II from 1942-45.

He was employed as a machinist for Super Mold for 26 years until his retirement in 1975.

Following his retirement, he worked for Castamagna Farms hauling grapes and walnuts until 1998. He was a 50-year veteran of the International Machinist Union Lodge No. 1528 and the Carpenters Union.

He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 259, Toastmasters, and was an assistant Boy Scout master for Troop No. 29. He was a supporter of Heifer International, and served as a Heifer Cowboy, delivering goats to Mexico.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as a head usher and was active in the United Methodist Men's group. He enjoyed his garden and flowers. He especially enjoyed spending time at family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lena Beck, of Lodi; sons, Bill Beck, of Modesto and Russell Beck, of Stockton; daughters, Sharron Rains, of San Gabriel and Janet Beck, of Modesto; sister, Ira Myrtle, of Dillehay, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Blanchard.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Alan Kimber officiating. Interment will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home, 123 N. School St., Lodi.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Oak St., Lodi; or to the Heifer International, 2015 J. Street, Ste. 106, Sacramento, Ca 95814.
