Albert Jury Dies of Auto Crash Injuries

Albert Jury, 93, 278 Water street, died early today of injuries received in an auto-pedestrian accident on Water street, February 11, according to Coroner Walter R. Bettencourt.
Jury was struck while crossing Water street near Garfield street, police said. The driver, Richard V. Gregory, 29, 807 E. Cliff drive, was not cited.
Preliminary police reports said the elderly man was not in the pedestrian lane, but members of the family claim a witness said Jury was in the pedestrian crosswalk at the time of the accident.
A native of Ontario, Jury graduated from Woodstock college, Ontario, and taught school in Minnesota before going in the banking business. He later worked in banks in Oregon and Seattle, and then entered the insurance field.
He came to Santa Cruz about 20 years ago to retire. His wife, the late Jane A. Jury, died here in July, 1948.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Genevieve Phelps, San Leandro, a grandson, James Phelps, Oakland; brothers, Amos Jury, Ontario, Edward Jury, New York, William Jury, Seattle, Walter Jury, San Francisco; and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Oliver, Santa Ana; also by nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a member of the First Baptist church here.
Funeral services will be conducted from White's mortuary at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Charles Gatchell and Rev. J.C. Colyar officiating.
Private internment will follow at IOOF Crematory.
